The four movements of this composition capture different ideas of time and different kind of percussion playing along the way."Dootsy-dootsy-doosty-doosty-dootsy-dootsy-dootsy-dootsy" is what the constant drum machine background of house or rave music sounds like. In between a short Intro and Outro there is a harmonically complex and powerful musical material develops in the orchestra parts only to be covered up by the Drum Set players constant Hard Rock groove seconded by the two other soloists. In Ghost notes there are minutes of music where the general dynamic of the playing does not go over "pp". Playing so soft for so long builds up quite some musical tension until finally the three percussion players burst out in a 'Triple Cadence' where they get to play really loud and really fast. Yes, the music is eerie, but the title is a reference to a soft percussion technique frequently used in pop music. Time stands still refers to the beginning of the song by John Dowland (1563 - 1626). 'Time stands still with gazing on her face, stand still and gaze for minutes, houres and yeares...' Indeed, time stops in this movement as the three soloists perform a trio without orchestra accompaniment. The music of the fourth movement was inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's TimeQuake. In Vonnegut's story the Universe decides to wind the clock back by 10 years, making everyone in the world endure a decade of deja-vu along with a total loss of free will. If you like the movie "Groundhog Day" you will like this edgy, funny version of a real musical TimeQuake. (Gergely Vajda)
